Director of Data Science and AI

Akkodis is seeking a Director of Data Science and AI located in Los Angeles, CA. The Director will lead the advanced development and implementation of data-driven solutions to enhance the quality, efficiency, and value of delivery. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts dedicated to leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and other AI techniques to create innovative applications and tools for clinical, operational, and research purposes.

Pay: $195K- $215K

Responsibilities:

• Lead a multidisciplinary team in designing, developing, and implementing data-driven solutions to improve health outcomes, quality of care, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with clinical, research, and administrative stakeholders to identify high-impact use cases and drive innovative data and AI initiatives.
• Manage the full lifecycle of data and AI projects, including data acquisition, preprocessing, modeling, validation, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Establish repeatable processes, playbooks, standards, and best practices to ensure the team delivers cumulative value with zero technical debt.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to data scientists, engineers, and analysts, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards in data and AI development.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies, promoting continuous learning and adaptation within the team.
• Operate within the data and AI governance framework to ensure ethical, legal, and responsible use of data and AI across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards for data privacy and security.
• Effectively communicate data and AI insights and results to various audiences, including senior leadership, clinicians, researchers, and external partners.
• Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, encouraging creative and collaborative approaches to problem-solving.
• Provide strategic input and support to Data, Analytics, and AI Executive Leadership and other senior leaders.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in a related field or a relevant Bachelor's Degree with 5 additional years of related experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading and managing data and analytics teams, with at least 3 years in managing data science and AI projects or teams in a research or healthcare setting.
• Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as AWS Sagemaker, Comprehend Medical, Python, SQL, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Spark.
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced statistical and machine learning techniques applied to real-world problems, such as predictive modeling, natural language processing, computer vision, or recommender systems at scale.
• Experience managing the entire AI/ML lifecycle, including developing scalable AI/ML CI/CD solutions.
• Proven experience in mentoring and supervising data scientists, machine learning engineers, and analysts.
• Experience managing collaborations with faculty, CROs, administrators, clinical leaders, and external organizations.
