POSITION SUMMARY

As the Division Safety Director, you will oversee all aspects of Safety within the division, setting the gold standard for safety culture, policies, and procedures. Working closely with division and field leadership and our Safety team, you will implement safety policies and procedures to minimize risks, injuries, and accidents. You will serve as the principal division Safety Champion and ensure the well-being of our employees across all operational fronts, cementing our position as an industry leader in safety excellence.

What you'll do:

Strategic and Cultural Leadership:

  • Champion the company's safety vision, objectives, and strategies to foster a culture of safety excellence.
  • Lead division safety planning efforts, aligning safety initiatives with corporate goals and objectives. Foster and enable a culture of care and safety first, where all employees are empowered to mitigate safety issues, regardless of level in the organization.


Talent Management and Development:

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, empowering direct reports to drive safety initiatives and achieve organizational goals.
  • Partner with division leadership to develop succession plans and talent pipelines to ensure continuity and sustainability in the division safety department.
  • Train and develop safety personnel, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the safety department.
  • Allocate key activities and tasks among team members to ensure optimal productivity and effective utilization of resources.
  • Anticipate and plan resource needs to ensure that division projects have sufficient safety coverage while our employees maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Manage hiring process and staffing assignments for safety roles in the division.
  • Manage annual performance process for safety employees within the division.
  • Source and manage safety subcontractors, as needed.


Safety Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of safety program management across multiple job sites, including out of market locations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance, implementing continuous improvement initiatives to mitigate hazards.
  • Develop implement, update, maintain, and provide technical expertise on safety policies, programs, and records. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance safety awareness.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices, collaborating with stakeholders to implement effective safety measures.
  • Lead internal and external incident management efforts, ensuring timely and thorough investigations, root cause analyses, regulatory reporting, and effective sharing of lessons learned for future prevention.
  • Collaborate with human resources, risk management, and insurance teams to effectively mitigate safety-related risks and liabilities.
  • Work with the field leadership to determine appropriate safety equipment and supplies for job sites.
  • Lead workers' compensation and insurance efforts at the division level, ensuring proper claims management and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Develop and advise department personnel, craft/field personnel, project managers, and superintendents when planning certain specialized activities, such as critical crane lifts or confined space entries.


What you'll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid required.
  • OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training required.
  • OSHA 500 and CHST certifications required.
  • CSP required.
  • 12+ years' experience successfully displaying progressive responsibility in managing safety programs on large-scale construction projects or similar environments.
  • 5+ years' experience managing internal safety teams and third-party consultants, with a track record of developing and growing employee skills and guiding career development.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction-related OSHA, MSHA, Federal, State, and local regulatory standards and strong communication skills to effectively convey safety policies.
  • Experience working for a union contractor and managing collaborative safety programs, with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, trade partners, and field leadership.
  • Experience managing multiple projects in multiple states.
