LOCATION

This position is located in the Greater Knoxville, TN area.

DESCRIPTION

The East Tennessee Regional Manager is responsible for supporting Area Directors in implementing year-round quality sports training and competition programs in East Tennessee Counties. Additional responsibility includes supporting the Special Olympics Young Athletes program, Health and Wellness programming, and Unified Sports programming within the region.

MISSION

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Liaison between all Special Olympics Tennessee (SOTN) departments and East Tennessee programs
  • Monitors sports policy compliance regarding planning, implementation, and managing of all aspects of local competition events in the region
  • Corresponds with East Tennessee Area Directors and coaches regarding information and opportunities for coaches' education, competition, and training
  • Creates competition and training calendars as well as e-newsletters for the region
  • Supports area delegations at all state competitions and assists as needed
  • Promote a positive culture within and outside the organization
  • Responsible for assisting East Tennessee Area Directors with annual budget creation and ensuring compliance with annual accreditation
  • Responsible for seeking in-kind donations of facilities, meals, etc., for local and area competitions
  • Responsible for assisting sports staff in planning and managing Special Olympics' regional leagues and competitions
  • Responsible for helping area programs develop and implement a volunteer Management Team
  • Responsible for supporting local and area fundraising efforts.
  • Liaison for the East Tennessee's Young Professionals Board
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of sports background experience developed through coaching and/or administration of competition (i.e., league, intramural) in a sports program.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, project a positive image, work closely with volunteers, and delegate duties and essential tasks
  • Paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Physical Education, Recreation, or Sports Management/Sports Administration (or equal experience)

  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends to meet job requirements
  • Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license and meet minimum Tennessee vehicle insurance requirements
  • All employees must pass a drug and criminal background screening

SALARY
  • Commensurate with experience. Position is full-time and benefit-eligible.
