Responsibilities*
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate new employee orientation. This will include all dept. staff including nurses, social workers and support staff)
  • Identify on-going educational needs and facilitate in-service as appropriate to the needs of the care management team.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of staff development plans.
  • Coordinate the completion of unit based mandatories/competencies and institutional regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct individualized and group learning programs for members of the department staff.
  • Provide on-going educational needs and facilitate in-services/LLOS rounds as appropriate to the needs of the Care management staff.
  • Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary and Nursing Leadership teams, in area improvement efforts such as research, and CQI.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in hospital records and other databases.
  • Remain knowledgeable in relevant care standards and compliance requirements for Care Management.
  • Care Management staffing is a required component of the appointment. Staffing component average 20%
  • Duties:
    • Systematic assessment of learning needs of clinical and prioritized planning in accordance with strategic directives. Implementation of instructional methodology, learner needs, and evaluation of outcome in terms of contribution of department of Care Management visions and directives.
      1. Provide leadership and direction for the implementation of a consistent competency based approach to Care Management education and development including orientation, annual required education and curricula that supports lifelong learning and all aspects of practice including compliance with regulatory standards, evidence based practice, policies and procedures and professional accountability.
      2. Design, implement, and evaluate educational programming that facilitates the achievement of job expectations within the Professional Development Framework, supports professional leadership development within nursing and enhances approaches to management and preceptor/educator development.
      3. Create and support a learning environment characterized by safe discourse, constructive feedback, first party communication, mentoring and team development within UMHS.
      4. Incorporate pertinent nursing, patient care and/or educational research into professional development programs and materials.
    • Represent nursing education across the system in terms of liaison responsibilities and participation in relevant governance activities.
    • Assume leadership for project/program management congruent with departmental objectives.
    • Role model change agency that supports continued organizational growth.

Hourly range for RSAM Registered Nurses $41.44 - $64.45 / hour
  • Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

  • Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

Required Qualifications*

  • Required Educational Requirement; applicant must meet one of the following:

Bachelor?s degree in Nursing OR

Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Master?s degree or higher in Nursing
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful hospital Case Management experience
  • Minimum 5 years of acute care nursing experience
  • Unit and committee involvement with evidence of increasing responsibilities in the following roles: two (2) or more years in the committee work, two (2) or more years of teaching skills and or two (2) years preceptor experience.

Desired Qualifications*
  • CCM or ACM certification
  • MSN preferred
  • Recent experience coordinating staff education
  • Previous nurse educator experience
  • Design and implementation of computerized online/web-based education technology or programs.
  • Knowledge of both discharge planning and utilization review process in Care Management.
  • Action orientated with ability to solve problems and function with limited supervision/direction to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to function as a positive change agent and provide direct mentoring, coaching, and leadership.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Strong technology/computer skills, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Provide direct and effective feedback; as evidence by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated in annual evaluations.
  • Self-Directed, reliable, demonstrates initiative, and motivation to work independently and collaboratively with other health care providers, as evidenced by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated annual evaluations.

  • Ability to utilize word processing and data base programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel and PowerPoint to create new documents, enter data, generate graphs and produce presentations.
  • Demonstrated development of staff educational materials, including CEU approved programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with the concepts of continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UMMC policies, procedures, and practices.

Work Schedule
  • Hours: 40 hours per week Monday - Friday (Occasional weekends may be necessary)
  • Shift: Primarily Days, however occasional off shifts may be necessary
  • Staffing Component: 1 day per week as needed
  • Location: Michigan Medicine Main Campus, Care Management Department (The Care Management staff are located throughout the Main Campus, i.e. University Hospital, ED, Mott Children's Hospital, University Hospital South)
