Assist the district/campuses with data informed research, data-analysis, effective lessons, explicit instruction, and intervention strategies. Serve as an instructional coach and support for teachers and leaders in utilizing a curriculum framework, planning effective lessons, and assisting teachers with differentiation of instruction to engage all learners. Assist teachers in designing instruction within a flexible learning environment that includes the use of digital devices. Support teachers with the science of teaching reading implementation on campuses and provide needed professional learning on the science of teaching reading as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Mentor and coach individuals and groups to identify strengths, areas of potential growth, and the steps to take in improving instructional practices.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor, and serve as an ambassador for the district's initiatives.
  • Actively seek positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Collaborate with elementary coordinators, campus leadership teams, colleagues, Instructional Technology Specialists, other departments, and campus team members to assure consistency in district-wide initiatives.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Instructional Support
  • Serve as an on-site campus instructional leader and coach to campus teachers.
  • Assist teachers in refining the alignment between the written, taught, and tested curriculum.
  • Assist teachers in designing engaging lessons and units of study, utilizing curriculum guides, including conceptual math and the science of teaching reading.
  • Model instructional strategies and best practices for improving student performance.
  • Participate in curriculum planning through district/content/campus/grade level area meetings.
  • Assist teachers with analyzing data for effective explicit instruction and the development of both formative and summative assessments.
  • Conduct campus and district staff development that is aligned with the MISD curriculum and supports the Campus Improvement Plan.
  • Actively plan with and assist campus educators in the instructional use of campus resources, technologies, and information literacy.

Resource Management and Technical Support
  • Assist in the selection of resources that are aligned with the MISD curriculum, support the District and Campus Improvement Plans, and are designed to maximize instructional use of technology, as needed.

Professional Growth
  • Establish and participate in electronic Professional Learning Networks to stay abreast of changing trends and technologies.

  • Attend professional learning opportunities aligned with instructional coaching.
  • Continually explore and learn emerging instructional strategies.
  • Survey professional literature for current trends and best practice.
  • Maintain active membership in professional organizations related to job responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum and Instruction Department to personalize professional growth plan annually.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 years experience as an elementary classroom teacher

Teaching experience at multiple grade levels in elementary

Campus and district level leadership experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university

Master's degree preferred

Texas Teacher Certification

Completed Texas Reading Academy

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of curriculum design of core and non-core content areas
  • Knowledge of current educational research in the use of instructional best practices, technology to enhance instruction, learning styles, teaching techniques, and student engagement
  • Knowledge of the science of teaching reading
  • Knowledge of the current content TEKS
  • Strong depth of knowledge with emerging trends, best practices, and technologies
  • Excellent skills in instructional planning with a curriculum framework and strong classroom organization and management
  • Excellent skills in analyzing data and using data to inform instruction
  • Ability to mentor and coach classroom teachers during the planning and implementation of instruction, including modeling effective instruction
  • Ability to diagnose the needs of teachers and align appropriate support
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technological skills in the forms of foundational, online, and multimedia.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs, teaching effectiveness, and technology applications for instructional impact
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional development experiences
  • Leadership skills and ability to work within a team to create support systems for district initiatives, differentiation in the classroom, data analysis, and high probability instructional strategies
