The EMU Project Engineering Supervisor reports directly to the CSSS Project Engineering Discipline Manager and will also support the EVA Program Chief Engineer. This is an internal EMU posting.

As a working supervisor your responsibilities span the leadership of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) including program commitments along with supervising up to 10 project engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support the program as a primary Project Engineering interface to the Program Engineering Manager
  • Lead IPD Teams assigned
  • Create and implement hardware processing coverage plans
  • Control team activity, scope and schedule of work assigned
  • Resolve design, procurement, assembly, test and delivery challenges
  • Conduct/Guide/direct failure analyses/root cause investigations
  • Conduct trade-studies, develop product requirements, cost estimates and proposals
  • Support selection of new Project Engineering talent as necessary
  • Assist and support the Discipline Chief Engineer in creation and maintenance of Project Engineering Standard Work.
  • Coordinate activities for assigned projects with Operations relative to development and production activities.


Supervisory responsibilities include:
  • Develop associates team leadership skills and project management skills.
  • Teach and coach engineering business processes associated with Project Engineering
  • Work with directs to align mentors appropriate on topics relative to their development and skill needs.
  • Maintain awareness and regularly report status for scope of work of projects being performed by direct associates, reporting to both the Discipline Chief and the PEM.
  • Review and sign timecards
  • Ensure eDOCs, GLP and Ethics training complete before due dates. Judiciously meter what eDOC changes are flowed to associates
  • Conduct a minimum of two performance feedback session with directs per year. One shall include feedback from PEMs and the Project Discipline Chief
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to direct associates based on your observations and feedback from other stakeholders (e.g. PEMs and Program Managers)
  • Identify gaps in training and fill where your expertise enables, where it does not elevate to the Functional Chief
  • Periodically, attend IPD team meetings led by your directs to observe leaders their skills as a basis to gather performance and determine coaching opportunities (providing feedback to the leader outside the IPD team meeting environment)
  • Assess workloads of directs and work with Functional Chief and PEMs to ensure appropriate work load distribution
  • Support direct associates to ensure that Failure Investigations, SRIs and QNs assigned are being appropriately worked with a plan that has a visible path to closure
  • Support direct associates in resolving design, procurement, assembly, test and delivery challenges
  • Review and challenge direct associates estimates (proposal estimates and ETCs) to ensure realism and achievability


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations d
  • Must be a US Person or Green Card Holder
  • Demonstrated success as an IPD Lead
  • Leadership and organization skills
  • Soft interpersonal skills to supervise, coach and mentor
  • Ability to bring team members together and work problems the best organization resolution
  • Familiarity with department processes and procedures and desire to make them more efficient
  • Technical acumen for decision making
  • Internal and Customer facing communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics is preferred
  • Eight years of professional or IPD Team leadership experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with EMU hardware is preferred
