The role involves active participation in curriculum and course development, ongoing program outcome evaluation, student competency assessment, and program accreditation maintenance. Essential Duties:
- Deliver asynchronous, online courses in Health Information Management (HIM) based on established course descriptions, learning outcomes, and syllabi.
- Provide academic support to students.
- Assist and guide students on: curriculum, scheduling, professional practice experience, career pathways, and on-campus/online labs when needed. Offer ten office hours per week, with a minimum of four hours on campus.
- Strive for continuous improvement in quality instructing by exploring innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery approaches.
- Contribute to the creation of new courses/curricula and the upkeep of existing ones.
- Design assessments and offer constructive feedback to align with AHIMA associate degree competencies and HIM Accreditation Standards.
- Employ diverse teaching methods and materials suitable for students with varying educational backgrounds and learning styles.
- Engage actively in college and divisional activities, meetings, and committees.
- Promote program awareness through strategic outreach and engagement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential.
- Bachelor's degree in a field of study related to HIM or education or the ability to complete a bachelor's degree within two years of hire.
- Three years minimum practical work experience in the health information management field.
- Current knowledge of the technical and software applications required in HIM.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential.
- Five years of practical work experience in the HIM field.
- Experience in medical coding, including HCPCS Level II and/or ICD-10.
