Utilize sophisticated medical equipment to monitor the vital signs of patients in their unit. Work with physicians to develop treatment plans for patients in the telemetry unit, and supervise the work of licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants who provide basic patient care.
Education
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of Maryland required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • Telemetry course required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification ACLS preferred

  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to utilize the following Safe Lift Equipment: Viking, Sabina, Ergo slide, Hoyer lifts, and Golvo. Gait belts, vital signs machine, and weighing scales. Telemetry monitors and screens
  • Functions autonomously when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care needs and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Respect and support rights of all patients and ensure patients confidentiality.
  • Able to read, interpret, and execute physician's orders for assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge to analyze and interpret basic to advanced cardiac rhythms information and able to apply necessary information towards their scope of practice.
  • Assess telemetry rhythms on cardiac monitors and chose appropriate course of action.
  • Competently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records.
  • Administers medication per policy. Monitors effects of medications and observes patient response; knowledgeable regarding actions and side effects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in calculating and preparation of cardiac medications (i.e. anti-arrhythmia infusion, intravenous anti-coagulant, dobutamine/dopamine infusion).
  • Effectively utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of patient care as defined in divisional and unit specific standards.
  • Problems are identified, prioritized, and communicated to physician.
  • Contributes to the overall operation of the unit by actively participating in activities such as: charge RN duties, preceptor for new staff, committee work, performance improvement, and special projects.
  • Completes divisional and unit-specific competencies as required.
  • Participates in continuing education classes and in-services.
  • Functions as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements.
  • Able to communicate and provide basic health care teachings/instructions for patients and family members.
  • Must maintain certifications and nursing licensure in accordance to their practice.
  • Responsible in delegating tasks to unlicensed personnel.
  • Supervise the performance of the LPN's, CNA's, and Nurse Technicians.
