Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) in Madison, WI is currently recruiting for Food Service Assistant LTEs.

Position Summary

The Food Service Assistant LTEs will transport food and supplies to and from the department, clean food production equipment, dishes and utensils, store food and supplies and perform all custodial, sanitation and related tasks in the Food Service Department.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $16.78 per hour. These are LTE appointments and are limited to 1039 hours in a year.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are classified as Food Service Assistant 2 and are in pay schedule and range 03/09.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Appointment is contingent upon passing a fitness assessment. Prior to appointment, all applicants must pass a pre-employment physical ability and agility screen which could include tasks such as lifting and kneeling.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience with basic Food Service policy and procedures.
  • Experience with proper sanitation and safety standards which includes following established procedures for cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment.
  • The ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and evening hours.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds shoulder high.
  • The ability to push and pull a 1000-lb. food cart on wheels to dining rooms.
  • The ability to climb an 8-foot ladder.
