The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.
The goal of the Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) is to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., foodborne outbreaks, general infectious diseases, healthcare-associated infections, influenza, meningitis, tuberculosis, vaccine-preventable diseases, waterborne outbreaks, zoonotic diseases and vector-borne diseases).
The bureau works closely with local health departments (LHDs), healthcare providers and laboratories to ensure that infectious disease reports are reviewed and investigated timely; the program provides technical expertise and coordination to LHDs, healthcare providers, laboratories and where appropriate, the general public.

Position Qualifications:
6 mos . exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; completion of graduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; must be able to provide own transportation.
OR
18 mos . exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; must be able to provide own transportation.

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

What You'll Do:
This position is responsible for coordinating the Foodborne Diseases Collaborative for Outbreak and Response Epidemiology (FoodCORE) program. Duties include:
- Conducting interviews with patients diagnosed with reportable diseases.
- Collecting and entering health data into the ODRS system.
- Educating patients on preventing disease spread.
- Training staff on infectious disease interviewing.
- Supporting development of disease prevention strategies.
- Analyzing data and generating reports on foodborne disease activity.
- Collaborating with health agencies during outbreaks.
- Representing FoodCORE at meetings and conferences.
- Communicating with public and private health agencies.
- Assisting with grant proposal preparation.

- Experience conducting public health interviews.
- Experience providing health education.
- Experience with analytical or visualization computer software (e.g., SAS, REDCap, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Post graduate coursework or a graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, or infectious diseases.
- Experience training others.
- Experience with infectious disease outbreak or cluster investigations.
