About the College/Unit/Department

The Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC) works in underserved high schools throughout Georgia to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students who attend and complete higher education. We help students find their way to college by placing well-trained, recent college graduates in high schools to work one-on-one with students as they navigate the complex college admissions process, including researching college options, completing applications, and applying for financial aid.

This position is based in the Atlanta area with in-person attendance required at meetings and events in Athens every 1-2 months. The position is primarily Monday-Friday with the possibility of occasional weekend work.

Master's degree in related field preferred.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator will play an integral role in the success of the Georgia College Advising Corps, a college access program that places recent college graduates into Georgia high schools as near-peer college advisers. The GCAC program is funded by private contributions and is a part of the national College Advising Corps (CAC). The program is operated through the Institute of Higher Education as part of their public service and outreach mission. The Program Coordinator will support the director in the areas of program implementation and evaluation. This position will
coordinate purchases, travel, and training for the advisers. Under the supervision of the director, this position will also coach advisers based in our partner schools in the Atlanta area, which will include conducting site visits reviewing adviser products. The Program Coordinator will lead recruitment, coordinate the interview process, and assist in matching advisers to available Atlanta Public School high schools.This position will serve as the manager of the partnership between GCAC and district leadership in Atlanta Public Schools and the foundation partner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Basic knowledge of UGA online business services system. Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks; experience working with budgets and spreadsheets; and understanding of human resources processes. Experience with college access programs, college enrollment functions, and/or K-12 school settings.

Frequent travel to Atlanta and Athens.

Manage operations in Atlanta by serving as a success coach for advisers in Atlanta Public Schools through product/report review, site visits, time-sheet approval, and serving as a first point of contact. Communicate with school leadership and partners about matters related to advisers' progress toward goals and program implementation in Atlanta Public Schools, exercising discretion and independent judgment when necessary.

Coordinate the logistical needs of the program to facilitate training, travel, and meetings. Collaborate with the director to plan and execute special events. Coordinate purchases of program supplies to ensure advisers and staff have the materials necessary for success. Support the program director through the maintenance of program files and records.

Lead new adviser recruitment through outreach to college student groups and career centers, social media campaigns, coordination of recruitment events, and other initiatives. Collaborate with the program director to select candidates to interview and facilitate the interview process, including logistics and collecting candidate materials as needed.

Collaborate with the program director to plan and deliver adviser training. Coordinate a tour of Georgia colleges for all staff members as part of the program's annual pre-service training.
