JOB SUMMARY

The Grants & Contracts Specialist II is responsible for managing post-award non-financial activities in compliance with sponsoring agencies. This position also provides guidance, support, and assistance to principal investigators with award management to meet deadlines, adequately fund budgets and close out awards on time.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/CRITICAL TASKS

  • Ensures institutional compliance with all provisions set forth by awards, including any applicable federal, state, UTHSCT/UTT or UT System requirements.
  • Manages assigned sponsored programs award activities.
  • Assists, prepare, and/or provides input and review for sponsored programs account budgets, contract compliance, reporting, close-out activities and other transactions.
  • Assist with new grant orientation for new principal investigators/project directors on policies and procedures required for sponsored projects.
  • Analyze project expenditures to ensure costs are allowable for sponsored projects.
  • Notify Grant Accountants of any accounting transactions that need to be processed.
  • Prepare Requests for budget changes.
  • Work closely with Accounting and Budget to set up new awards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Utilize multiple systems for work including PeopleSoft and Cayuse.
  • Strong numerical proficiency, good organizational and problem-solving skills, and excellent use of logic.
  • Solid Microsoft Excel Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Proven technology skills and the ability to lead the institution in automation initiatives.
  • Experience working with budgets is preferred.
  • Collaboration style that emphasizes teamwork, communication, trust, and patience.
  • Professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience in the relevant field.
