DESCRIPTION

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for critically ill infants in the Level III NICU at Jacobs Medical Center as well as the Level II NICU at Hillcrest Medical Center. We provide family-centered and evidence-based care for a mixed infant population. Our specialty services include surgery, laser eye treatment, imaging, central line insertion, transport, high risk delivery resuscitation and palliative care.

The NICU Hospital Unit Service Coordinator (HUSC) supports a diverse multidisciplinary team that provides direct patient care in a fast-paced environment. In order to be successful in this role, they will demonstrate excellent critical thinking and time management skills, prove to be highly self-motivated, and offer excellent customer service to families and visitors. Examples of responsibilities include maintaining a courteous and receptive atmosphere, monitoring progress of equipment and unit facilities maintenance, temperature monitoring, answering telephones, screening unit check-ins, admitting and discharging patients through the electronic medical record system, scanning medical documents, overseeing room turnover, maintaining staff and family reference materials, and acting as a unit resource. This position is critical to overall infant security and infection prevention.

It will be imperative to achieve trust in professional relationships through a demonstrated spirit of divisional collegiality and teamwork. Our team emphasizes professionalism, communication, quality and teamwork with a shared goal of offering superb neonatal outcomes. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to unit operations. NICU HUSCs will be cross-trained to other units as needed.

This position is required to work at both Jacobs Medical Center and Hillcrest Medical Center. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum two (2) years recent experience as a unit secretary/coordinator or similar function in a large, complex healthcare environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong data entry skills and/or keyboard training.
  • Superb customer service skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess problems and needs to prioritize and develop potential solutions.
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle critical and/or urgent situations with accuracy, expediency andspeed, and tact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BART or BLS at time of hire.
  • Two (2) years college/technical school.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate.
  • Prior experience in women and/or infant health.
  • Prior experience in an acute care department
  • Proficiency with Epic, UCSD Paging & Scheduling Systems.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English.
  • Database management.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,766 - $66,858 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.75 - $32.02

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
