Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I (Supervisor), the Associate Personnel Analyst (APA) performs analytical and technical classification and selection work and provides consultation and assistance to assigned California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) Divisions and contracted client agency management and staff in the interpretation and application of state civil service laws, rules, and related departmental policies and procedures pertaining to the hiring process and initiates or recommends changes that promote innovative solutions to meet departmental needs. The APA provides technical expertise, training, guidance, assistance, and support to CalHR employees, supervisors, and managers. Using a high degree of independent judgment, the position is responsible for position control duties associated with the ongoing maintenance and tracking of departmental positions.

The incumbent will promote and be accountable for customer satisfaction and quality service and initiate or make recommendations that promote innovative solutions to meet customer needs. The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to providing accurate, timely, and quality service that exceeds our customer's expectations. The incumbent is responsible for promoting and maintaining organizational culture by ensuring all functional areas align with CalHR's mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives.
