Essential Job Functions

They Bay Area offices of Kirkland & Ellis are seeking a Human Resources Coordinator. This individual would work out of our San Francisco office and report to the Bay Area Associate Director of Human Resources. They will be primarily responsible for facilitating Human Resources tasks, projects and processes in the Bay Area offices. The ideal candidate will be someone who provides excellent customer service to all internal and external clients, is passionate about Human Resources and going the extra mile to support our staff and attorneys, values collaboration and teamwork, and strives for improvement and increased efficiency.

Primary duties include conducting benefits orientation, answering payroll and benefits-related questions, supporting the on-boarding/off-boarding of attorneys and staff, and assisting employees with leave of absence. Additionally, the HR Coordinator will support staff recruiting activities, conduct new hire orientation, assist with office wide employee relations initiatives, and perform other activities related to the general administration of the HR department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)
  1. HR Projects
  • Assist the Bay Area HR Team with a variety of human resources projects, including, but not limited to document audits, file digitization, summer internship coordination, and community outreach programming.
  • Support Associate Director of HR with annual performance review process and the 30-60-90 day onboarding program.
  • Assist with local office wellness initiatives.
  1. Employee Onboarding
  • Assist with coordination of new hire onboarding, including conducting background and reference checks for new hires.
  • Assist with first day orientation for new staff members.
  • Assist with verification of new hire paperwork including I-9 documentation.
  1. HR Administrative Support
  • Respond to employee questions regarding Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employee compliance with anti-harassment training.
  • Send offboarding paperwork to departing employees, ensure collection and filing of paperwork.
  • Coordinate any employee ergonomic needs.
  • Maintain electronic personnel files.
  • Assist with regularly auditing of time reports and employee timecards to ensure compliance with time & absence policies.
  • Assist in completion of employment verifications and employment letters.
  • Other assignments and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills
  • Bachelor's degree with two to four years of Human Resources experience.
  • Excellent initiative and high standards for personal performance.
  • Ability to learn quickly, multi-task and meet concrete deadlines.
  • Excellent proofreading and organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Process orientation with proven project management ability.
  • Excellent follow-through skills, as well as keen judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Be flexible to work overtime, as needed.
  • Working knowledge of CA employment law and local ordinances is required.

Certificates, Licensures, Registrations
  • SHRM-CP or HRCI Certification preferred.
