Position Number: 101960 Position Title (Classification Title): Information Specialist, Information Specialist Working Title: Circulation OPS/FWS Specialist Job Summary: Performs nightly shifts at the circulation service desk and provides backup service desk assistance as needed. Closes the library Monday through Thursday nights. Responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling OPS and FWS student assistants for the circulation department. Assists with library collection projects. Maintains and annually updates the position's policy and procedure manual. Department Library Admin FLSA: Non-Exempt Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Position Qualifications: High school graduate with two years of related experience, strong customer service skills, excellent attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Prefer candidates with some college education, general knowledge of library operations, and familiarity with a library computer system. Supervisory experience is also preferred. Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 45% - Trains and schedules the OPS and FWS student workers for the department (is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, timesheet verification, and evaluations to meet departmental needs); monitors the department's OPS budget to ensure there is proper OPS student coverage in the library's desk and stacks during the library's hours of operation without exceeding the department's OPS budget. Coordinates with the Circulation Manager and the Collection Specialist on student planning, training, and student development duties. The position will develop new policies and training for students to help keep up with the department's changing needs. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Handles circulation desk and course reserves duties, such as circulating materials, supervising desk students, addressing circulation issues, assisting patrons in locating course reserves, and receiving packages. Oversees all circulation and library activities during the evening hours, including building maintenance and security issues. Ensures building security at closing by clearing patrons out of the library, shutting down equipment, and locking and alarming all doors. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assists the Collection Specialist with stacks maintenance such as shelving, inventory, shifting, shelf reading, and other collection projects as they arise. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
