Why does the job exist?

This position exists to provide network administration services and technical expertise for the Taxation and Revenue Department's (TRD) local and wide area networks for 70+ locations. Under general direction, network administration and maintenance of hardware and software. Manage network projects and support the network environments of computer technologies, including voice, data, and/or video/image technologies.

How does it get done?

This position will:

* Assist in the design, documentation, and implementation of new and/or improved network systems.
* Monitor and report on network utilization and escalate issues to higher level network support.
* Respond to escalated trouble calls; diagnose and develop solutions/repair.
* Troubleshoot and maintain the security of the network infrastructure.
* Patch and perform routine maintenance of network devices.
* Apply oral and written communication skills to communicate complex technical issues to nontechnical users.
* Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with customers and technical staff.
* Maintain knowledge of network technologies and standards.
* Implement the network configuration,and may oversee installation and implementation of the network.
* Ability to reach technical documents, maintain accurate records, and prioritize work.
* Makes recommendations for changes and may implement agreed upon enhancements.
* Maintains and validates back-ups of network configuration.
* May provide technical leadership to first-level staff.

The position supports internal and external customer of the Taxation and Revenue Department.

Ideal Candidate

Will have experience in:

* Next Generation firewalls
* Network administration
* Cisco Routers and Switches
* Web filtering
* Logging and Remediation

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in network administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, electronics, circuit boards, processors, chips and telephone usage.
