JOB SUMMARY:

  • Performs a wide variety of tasks in the Jig Shop with an emphasis on welding skills.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, lay out and perform all fabrication and assembly operations necessary to build, alter, repair, and maintain complicated jigs and fixtures where considerable skill and knowledge of tooling practice and application is required.

• Work from complicated drawings and specifications to develop jigs or fixtures, determines material requirements, lays out and determines any information lacking on the print or specification, makes calculations necessary to develop required information and data. Prepares any sketches necessary to machine, weld or assemble the various parts of tools.

• Complete tool in specified location, checks main tooling points, hinges and other location lines. Adjust control points to coordinate with master gauges.

• Perform developmental work proceeding with own conception in absence of designs and specifications but will review progress intermittently with supervision. Assumes responsibility for quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy.

• Check and sets production jigs and fixtures with aid of such equipment as master gauges and optical tooling, for correct alignment, level and location of tooling points. Uses a wide variety of hand tools, some machine tools and a variety of precision measuring instruments such as transits, levels, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial gauges and sine bars.

• Use the Laser Tracker and computer system to determine correct x, y and z coordinate orientation; establish alignment or control points on an object to be measured; analyze and manipulate the calculated data in desired format.

• Use a variety of welding methods such as arc, TIG and MIG on different materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Performs other related duties as required.

• Work with supervision to complete tasks.

EDUCATION:

• Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.

• Use of advanced shop math, a variety of precision measuring instruments and interpret blueprints.

EXPERIENCE:

• Machining, fabrication, or related experience is preferred.
