Essential Functions
Manage the Chemical Engineering Unit Operations Lab by operating, maintaining, and facilitating repairs to specialized instructional equipment. Manage the service contracts, maintenance, installation, and repair of specialized analytical instrumentation for teaching and research. Serve as the chemical safety officer for the College of Engineering and collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure compliance with laboratory signage, safety inspections, and chemical hygiene policies. Facilitate purchase of lab materials and equipment, audit inventory, and handle disposal of materials and hazardous waste. Submit work orders through facilities to address laboratory repairs and modifications in undergraduate and research labs. Supervise and train student workers with the goal of enhancing their education with meaningful work experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, biology, chemical, civil, or environmental engineering or a related field. At least 3 years' experience in managing, operating, repairing, and maintaining complex laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Basic knowledge in a broad array of technologies are needed, which includes but is not limited to electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, chemicals, data acquisition, systems integration, safety compliance, and financial impact of decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
University experience is preferred.
