Job Description
The Vinauger lab is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the laboratory of Dr. Clément Vinauger at Virginia Tech. The laboratory technician will primarily assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and his laboratory members with performing and analyzing behavioral and molecular biology experiments on mosquitoes, including maintaining mosquito strains, and ordering supplies. There are opportunities for attending professional meetings, writing manuscripts, and publication of research findings. Starting date is August 25, 2024.
Required Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Excellent organizational skills; Experience with laboratory, in particular electrophysiology, and insectary work; Experience with fine scale dissections and mosquito locomotor activity monitoring; Experience with R programming for data visualization and analysis; Ability to multi-task, and prioritize work assignments; Ability to work independently on projects under the supervision of the PI; Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and maintain good working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Neuroscience, Entomology or related discipline; At least 1 year of experience working in a research lab; Strong interest in biological and Public Health related research.
