Job Summary:
This position is in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology in Dr. Jenna Guthmiller's lab. This position will utilize molecular, biochemical, genetic, immunological, and in vitro approaches to study immunity against influenza viruses. This research position will involve handling primary human tissues and maintaining the laboratory biobank. This research position will involve laboratory-based studies on primary human cells and influenza viruses, with work performed at biosafety level 2. A successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing the Guthmiller biobank, participate in research projects, and help maintain the operation of the laboratory. The candidate should have exceptional organizational skills. The employee will be working closely with the lab manager and will assist a postdoctoral fellow in experimental work. Rarely, experimental protocols will require working in the evening or on weekends.

- Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.

- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a basic science laboratory.
- Experience with laboratory management.
- Experience with animal breeding and handling.
- Previous experience with flow cytometry, molecular biology/biochemistry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
