The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring a Lead Family Services Specialist for the Assessment and Resource Team (ART) to work with community partners to develop partnerships, services and events to help meet the human services needs of individuals and families in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights. ART responds to requests for individuals and families in crisis for providing problem-solving, referrals and financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities and medications. The Lead Worker supervises team members in the absence of a supervisor.
What You Do and How You Do It:
You will be working with citizens, other county departments, businesses, and state partners to evaluate and assess the needs and service gaps to help identify opportunities to develop resources, partnerships and innovative approaches to overcoming barriers. You will plan, manage, and monitor budgets designed to help support residents who are in crisis. You will utilize various methods, technology, and strategies to engage customers and citizens, educating them about our programs and services. You will also participate on an Emergency Shelter Team, reporting to shelter duty as required. Perform other work as required.
Here's What You Need:
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field, Master's degree in Social Work preferred; two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in interviewing and strengths-based practice; experience developing and performing individualized needs assessments and service plans for individuals and families preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
