The Wisconsin DNR is hiring two LTE (Limited Term Employee) - Fisheries Technician Advanced at our Kettle Moraine Springs Hatchery, in Adell, WI.

These positions are expected to work from approximately October 2024 through April 2025.

Position Summary

These positions are responsible for a broad range of technical and paraprofessional support for the fisheries management program. Work duties include leading LTE Crews, implementation of high priority fish culture and distribution activities, following bio-security protocols, conducting outreach and entering of data into statewide databases.

60% - Independently lead LTE crews as part of a local fish culture team. Activities consist of spawning, incubation, rearing, harvest, and distribution of cool or cold-water fish which includes tasks such as cleaning of rearing tanks, sample and record egg, fry and fish size/condition and maintenance of all rearing and distribution equipment. Enter and proof stocking receipts into statewide database.

20% - Lead facility outreach and hatchery tours to the public as directed.

10% - Employee will lead LTE crews in the disinfection of equipment and rearing infrastructure and administer chemical treatments to fish as directed to ensure Bio-Security protocols are followed.

10% - Operate, repair, and maintain work unit equipment and general hatchery grounds. Maintenance may include painting, snow removal, lawn care and janitorial work.

Salary Information

These positions pay $18.00 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 06-14. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin resident is a person who:

a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;

b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;

c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or

d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c)." s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:

• Have a valid driver's license

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience

• Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years

• Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work irregular shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and use of e-mail

• Ability to conduct work with minimal supervision in a variety of weather conditions

• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and skills in general fish culture or natural resources management

• Experience summarizing and entering data into Microsoft Excel or similar databases

• Experience operating equipment relevant to the position's duties (ex. lawn mowers, trash pumps, and boats and motors)
