MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Zanesville Meat Plant - Zanesville, Ohio

Non-exempt

Full Time - Second Shift

4:30pm to 2:00am (36 hours) or 4:00pm to 12:30am (40 hours)

The Maintenance Mechanic maintains and repairs production equipment and other equipment throughout the meat plant facility to minimize downtime, maximize efficiency and performed in a timely safe and sanitary manner. Responsible for maintaining refrigeration equipment to enable production of a quality product and storage since temperatures are critical within the plant. General upkeep of the building and outside premises must also be maintained. Maintenance Mechanics are expected to uphold and demonstrate the Company's Core Values. Maintenance Mechanics are expected to perform related duties assigned by management, which may be added, revised, or eliminated based on business and operational needs, with or without advance notice. Maintenance Mechanics must follow the direction and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Plant Manager.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • High School diploma or GED required; and at least 1-3 years of general maintenance experience required;
  • Must have previous work experience and/or education in the following areas: Refrigeration, 480 3-phase voltage electrical, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, air compressors, welding;
  • Possess an adequate knowledge of safe lifting procedures and be able to follow instructions given by the person in charge, while working closely with the Quality Assurance Department personnel;
  • Good understanding of the basic lockout program and proper procedures for safety, in particular keeping hands and all other objects out of moving equipment parts is required; ability to read blueprints and schematics;
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and be able to make on the spot decisions to keep equipment running;
  • Must be proficient with shop tools, machinery disassembly & repair, and basic electrical troubleshooting;
  • Ability to learn new equipment and understand and recommend equipment modifications;
  • Possess solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills;
  • Good verbal communication skills, teamwork, ability to give and take direction, and follow detailed instructions;
  • Ability to learn, apply and train others on equipment procedures and workplace health & safety procedures;
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to concentrate and accomplish multiple tasks on one's own initiative and within established timeframes;
  • Ability to successfully complete on-the-job training; and
  • Ability to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Maintain and repair production equipment including the spiral freezer, ammonia refrigeration system and sewage treatment operation when needed; assemble and disassemble production equipment;
  • Maintain and repair equipment within the facility, the building and outside premises;
  • Maintain the maintenance shop including the operation and maintenance of the equipment in the shop;
  • Design and fabricate specialty items needed for production and/or production equipment (welding required);
  • Perform weekend and/or holiday checks as scheduled; work in a safe and efficient manner at all times;
  • Special attention and strict adherence must be given to the QA Guidelines at all times to insure product wholesomeness;
  • Prepare and maintain various log reports which may include the plant temperature log, compressor reading log, sewage pre-treatment log, daily shift communication log and the refrigeration and production repair records as needed;
  • Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures;
  • Adhere to Plant's security and safety policies and procedures;
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers in professional manner, display a pleasant demeanor and
  • be responsive to the teams' needs; and
  • Provide training to new team members when requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, smoke, cleaners, and other elements;
  • Ability to work well with co-workers in a physically close environment;
  • Ability to wear safety gear including a respirator, safety glasses, cut gloves and other various types of safety gear supplied by the company;
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 70 pounds (unassisted/assisted);
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking;
  • Engage in prolonged repetitive use of fine motor skills, including but not limited to working with small parts, electronics, and hand tools;
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, climbing, squatting, or crawling;
  • Ability to move quickly and safely in confined areas;
  • Visual inspection of parts and mechanical processes; and
  • Ability to hear, comprehend, and professionally respond to co-worker inquiries, comments, and concerns.
