Summary Description of Position

The Maintenance Supervisor assists the Plant Manager in the management of production operations to achieve optimum utilization at the lowest operating cost. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by enforcing the company's safety policies and procedures, MSHA, OSHA , and other regulations. Individual is responsible for supervising the activities of production and maintenance hourly employees. Is also responsible for directing and coordinating the daily activities of employees and providing oversight to the safety, quality control, plant efficiencies, and preventative maintenance of the plant and equipment.

Education, Experience, Skills Required

Education:

  • High School Diploma required. BS / BA degree, Associates degree, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience preferred.




Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in processing and maintenance. One (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred. Construction materials industry experience preferred.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees; knowledge and understanding of a plant operation (aggregate, asphalt, ready mix, sales yard); ability to be hands-on and perform repair work when called upon; able to understand, interpret, and apply policies and procedures; knowledge and understanding of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations; able to motivate and reward employees; able to develop and establish performance measurements for department; good organization and business planning skills; excellent problem solving skills and practices; good computer skills; able to analyze and solve business problems; able to establish practices and develop resources to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
Essential Functions

  1. Supervises activities of hourly production and maintenance employees. May perform hands-on repair work when necessary
  2. Participates in the recruitment process which may include screening and hiring hourly production and maintenance employees
  3. Schedules production requirements to support daily, weekly and monthly sales forecast to meet customer's needs
  4. Individual provides coaching and disciplinary counseling to employees under his or her area of responsibility (includes employee relations and administration of collective bargaining agreements)
  5. Ensures that employees receive proper training and instructions to perform job duties
  6. Schedule and assign employee's work based on production needs (manpower planning)
  7. Administers and enforces Company and Area policies and procedures
  8. Works with SHE department and Company officials to promote a safe work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and regulations and ensures that the plant meets all SHE policies and practices at the site location
  9. Works closely with salespeople and customers to ensure that Area products meet customer needs and expectations (to include customer visits)
  10. Works on the implementation of cost saving programs and/or continuous improvement activities to reduce costs and improve operating efficiency
  11. Participates in Operations short and long range business planning
  12. Attends daily production meetings on the daily running and operations of the plant
  13. Participate in plant inspections on a regular basis
  14. Other duties may be assigned as required.


Other Requirements
    Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time.


      • Must be able to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis.
      • Ability to use computerized equipment and technology to analyze an operational performance and make decisions based on data that optimizes efficiencies while meeting production needs.
      • Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. In the office employee will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station. In the outside setting employee will perform activities in unprotected heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools. Outside setting will expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces.
      • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
      • Travel required: 10%
      • Ability to work in a stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making. Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
