ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is one of the largest municipal park systems in the nation with more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves with 200 miles of trails; 29 pools; 8 golf courses; 187 flatland parks; 10 preserve areas; and 33 community centers. Over a million Phoenix-area residents regularly enjoy the city's parks, playgrounds, walking paths, athletic fields and open green spaces.

The Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for a Management Assistant II to report and provide support to the Director's Office. This position will serve as the liaison for the 2023 GOPHX Bond Parks and Recreation Program, overseeing the tracking of projects, timelines, progress, and budgets. The selected candidate will also be responsible for developing a Parks and Recreation data dashboard system to track programs and services provided by the department.

The Management Assistant II will act as the liaison to the City's Audit Committee which includes coordinating and attending audit meetings, tracking division deadlines, and updating the TeamMate platform. This position will assess and evaluate recreation programs in the Department. Additional responsibilities will include writing City Council Reports, approving and routing files through the city's electronic agenda management system, creating PowerPoint presentations, assisting staff with grant writing and submissions, coordinating the department's review of legislative bills, working on various projects, and overseeing City initiatives such as FitPHX and the Parks Strategic Plan.

The Management Assistant II provides administrative support to the Executive Team in the Director's Office. The selected candidate must be able to work independently and must be capable of making thorough analyses and sound recommendations.

SALARY

Pay Range: $67,849 to $116,022 annually.

Hiring Range: $67,849 to $105,248 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of professional-level experience in research, finance, or public administration.
  • Master's degree in business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience providing staff support to a board or public committees.
  • Experience creating, managing, and monitoring/tracking Systems.
  • Experience with PowerPoint presentations including drafting, editing, approving documents for various audiences.
  • Experience using research methods, data and statistical analysis, and benchmarking to develop business decisions.
  • Experience creating, managing, and monitoring/tracking systems.
  • Experience conducting independent research and making recommendations on complex problems and projects.
  • Experience leading projects and initiatives.
  • Experience supporting management or executive level staff.
  • Experience working in public service.
  • Experience working with elected officials, boards, and/or committees.
  • Experience writing formal/detailed reports and creating power point presentations.
  • Experience developing resources to monitor and promote success.
  • Experience making recommendations to improve program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Experience as a liaison working with multiple internal and external teams, partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience with data analytics and creating reports.
  • Experience in grant writing.
