The Opportunity

The EHS Manager manages the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance efforts in a manufacturing setting that contains multiple, complex machines and operations with 170+ employees and multiple buildings, with a focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service.

How you will impact WestRock:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs/procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations
  • Manage the plant safety program to ensure it meets with WestRock corporate standards and that the plant is operated in a safe manner
  • Support and work with Performance Excellence Safety sub pillar teams through coaching and developing floor leadership to promote employee engagement and an injury free workplace
  • Compile and update work and safety rules and communicate a Total Safety Culture
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures including job hazard analysis (JHA) and Master Safety Action List (MSAL)
  • Plan, coordinate, and track annual OSHA required training
  • Coach and support monthly Plant and Management Safety meetings
  • Manage and communicate weekly departmental safety audits
  • Ensure all documentation is properly maintained and available when needed for inspections and audits
  • Track monthly safety inspections (ladders, slings, fire protection, etc.)
  • Investigate incidents to determine root cause and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence. Ensure that the data is entered into the corporate safety system timely and accurately
  • Prepare safety alerts and distribute appropriately
  • Work with insurance companies on workers compensation claims
  • Supervise light duty assignments
  • Compile monthly injury reports
  • Maintain and update contractor guidelines, indemnity, insurance and safety requirements
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of safety compliance and employee training records
  • Manage all aspects of the company's Industrial Hygiene Program (air, noise, ergonomics, etc.)


What you need to succeed:
  • Two (2) years of experience managing EHS initiatives
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience required
  • Two (2) years prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable
  • Ability to utilize business sense and creativity to develop new ideas, approaches and solutions
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to utilize and train employees on technology, processes and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to persuade and influence decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams, and to communicate difficult issues
  • Prior experience establishing proactive Ergonomics Program
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
