Position Summary

At Empower, the role of the Insider Risk Management Program (IRMP) Manager is central to our commitment to excellence and integrity, ensuring that our operations are safeguarded against insider threat incidents. Our IRMP Manager is instrumental in maintaining tools, training, and capabilities to measure, detect, and contain undesirable behavior of trusted accounts within Empower. This meticulous work not only supports the success of our Insider Risk Management Program but also protects Empower's operations and customers.

In this vital role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of Empower's IRMP. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with insider threats. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Empower's Legal, Information Technology, and Human Resources Departments to develop and execute the IRMP Policy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains the IRMP Policy to include Governance Structure, ensuring it aligns with the Empower's strategic objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Leads insider risk remediation efforts, including the development of action plans and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinates with Information Technology (IT), Operations, and Security to integrate technical and non-technical measures into the IRMP.
  • Supervises the IRMP Core Team responsible for conducting risk assessments/scoring, analysis, and operation of the Risk Management Tool.
  • Manages the escalation process for insider risks, ensuring timely and appropriate communication with the Insider Risk Management Working Group (IRMWG) and leads recurring meetings with the IRMWG.
  • Conducts thorough insider risk investigations, collaborating with Legal, IT, Finance, and Human Resources as necessary.
  • Provides regular performance updates and suggests areas of improvement/optimization to the IRMP Steering Committee.
  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging accountability, creativity, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Provides mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members, supporting their growth and success within the organization.
  • Evaluates employee performance, provides feedback and coaching as needed, and prepares performance evaluations for employees.
  • Develops and fields training and education concerning the IRMP to Empower's employees.
  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of the IRMP.
  • Regularly reviews and analyzes these metrics to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Engages with external partners, industry groups, and professional organizations to stay informed about the latest trends, best practices, and emerging threats in insider risk management.
  • Leads the insider threat incident response process, ensuring that all incidents are thoroughly investigated, documented, and resolved in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures the IRMP complies with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and prepares for and manages internal and external audits related to insider risk management.
  • Conducts insider risk assessments during mergers, acquisitions, or other significant organizational changes, and develops and implements risk mitigation strategies to protect Empower's assets and operations.
  • Continuously assesses and recommends new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance the IRMP's capabilities in detecting and mitigating insider threats.
  • Develops and leads communication campaigns to raise awareness of insider risks and promote a culture of security across Empower.
  • Proactively engages with various departments to identify potential insider risks associated with new projects, initiatives, or changes in the organization, and provides guidance on mitigating these risks.
  • Manages the budget and resources allocated to the IRMP, ensuring that the program is adequately funded and staffed to meet its objectives.
  • Regularly reviews and updates IRMP processes, policies, and procedures to reflect changes in the threat landscape, organizational structure, or regulatory requirements.
  • Designs and conducts scenario planning exercises and simulations to test the organization's readiness to handle insider threats, using the outcomes to refine response plans and improve overall preparedness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in law, Business Administration, Information Security, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in corporate insider risk management or related area.
  • Previous experience managing, evaluating, and directing the work of others.
  • Experience with policy creation, risk assessment, incident management, and incident tracking.
