Enterprise Data Governance & Platforms (EDGP) is part of the larger Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions (EDDS) organization. EDGP improves the customer experience and drives business growth through robust enterprise-wide data policies and governance and enabling a data-driven culture, while developing digital and data platforms that provide insightful customer relationships and allow users to leverage enterprise-wide data capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Manager, Enterprise Data Governance - Metadata Management & Data Intelligence Solutions role will support the data activation process of bringing critical data under governance across business units at American Express, as outlined in the organization's Enterprise Data Governance Policy. This role will also provide support in training, communications, and change management related to data governance across the enterprise. This role will be responsible to work closely with data activation teams and system certification teams in EDG, as well as Federated Data Office (FDOs) teams across different business units. The Manager will be responsible for:

  • Execution of data activation activities and processes related to business metadata acquisition, mappings, and curation, to bring data under governance.
  • Identify connection points and drive mapping conversations for data privacy, data quality, and data stewardship risks and controls.
  • Contributing to development and maintenance of best practices, procedures, and methodologies to assist in the implementation of Data Governance policy and standards.
  • Communicating metadata management requirements to federated data office teams to efficiently bring data under governance.
  • Leading the training of federated data office teams on metadata documentation, business glossary curation, and data catalog maintenance.
  • Supporting the development of foundational data catalog capabilities by providing requirements to teams who own data governance tools.
  • Establish a culture of data governance by developing partnerships with data stewards and data custodians to promote data governance best practice.


Qualification Requirements:

A successful candidate will have:

  • Understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts (metadata, lineage, data quality, etc.) and related metrics to monitor compliance of Data Governance Policy and Standards
  • Prior experience implementing Data Management / Data Governance programs, preferably at the Enterprise level.
  • Preliminary understanding on data domains, key data roles and responsibilities - data steward, data custodian, business process owner etc.
  • Basic experience/knowledge of Data Governance/Data Management tools. (Collibra is preferred)
  • Understanding of data lifecycle management principals and data risks and controls in privacy, data quality, and data stewardship.
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative, results and solution oriented, and personal accountability and resiliency.
  • Ability to collaborate, influence, and communicate across multiple stakeholders and levels of leadership, speaking at the appropriate level of detail to both business executives and technology teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
  • Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity and needing to make decisions with less than perfect information.
  • Demonstrated learning agility, ability to make decisions quickly and with the highest level of integrity.
  • Eagerness to test, learn, fail, and improve is essential.
  • Must have a positive, collaborative leadership style with colleague and customer first attitude.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
