Daikin Applied is seeking a talented and eager Manufacturing Engineer - Compressors. The Manufacturing Engineer will provide advanced process support. The position will be under the direct supervision of the Director of the Compressor business unit and will be responsible for advanced process support, support on new product development teams, and management of small projects. Location: Staunton, VA - Onsite

What you will do:
  • Identify cost-down opportunities for compressors
  • Identify compressor components that can be machined in-house and work with the machining team and production to manufacturer in-house. Design fixtures and identify tooling
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability of compressors
  • Manage all phases of Project Planning and Management including client engagement, project development, project planning, project administration, cost control, quality control, staffing, and profitability responsibility
  • Analyze operational data like workforce utilization, facility layout, and workflow and apply lean manufacturing principles to optimize equipment and workspace effectiveness, actively participating (occasionally leading) in kaizen for continuous improvement
  • Facilitate manufacturability in new product development by collaborating with cross-functional design teams, defining production processes, estimating costs, and offering manufacturing support to NPI teams (e.g., PFMEA, process flow changes, tool/fixture design)
  • Provide equipment design specifications, solicit quotes, and recommend equipment purchases for process enhancement
  • Specify capital equipment as needed, purchase, install and facilitate training

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology or Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical, scientific or engineering degree
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Project management experience in a technical field e.g. HVAC, CNC Machining, new product development
  • Experience with government and/or certification agencies and their requirements such as UL/ETL, ISO, etc.
  • Experience with computer-based design and part database software. SolidWorks and EPDM preferred
  • Experience with MS Project and MS Office
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years of experience with part machining, CNC machines using state-of-the-art manufacturing processes including cellular manufacturing and demand flow technology
