Essential Job Functions

We are seeking a dynamic and organized business development professional to support our growing Miami office. This specialist will provide support across the business development and marketing lifecycle, playing a significant role in the execution of development strategies for the Miami office. This role will report to the Business Development Director and will work closely with the Business Development team in Chicago.

Key initiatives will cover a variety of functions, including pitches and proposals, client events, contact relationship management, business/relationship intelligence and branding. The candidate will actively contribute ideas, and execute and expand upon existing organizational tools, processes and policies, all while providing superior service to attorneys and clients alike. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, with a proven record of simultaneously managing multiple projects. The candidate must be willing and able to work both early mornings, later nights and occasional weekends.

You will communicate and collaborate daily with approximately 160 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Kirkland's international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)
  • Consulting with key stakeholders on the development and execution of meaningful strategic business development and marketing initiatives for the region.
  • Researching, developing and managing on-point visibility opportunities, such as bespoke client events, regional sponsorship opportunities, industry seminars and speaking opportunities to increase an individual or the office's profile.
  • Maintaining data in the Firm's marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database, including targeted client and prospect lists used for client engagement.
  • Producing client-facing proposal materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Conducting online and database research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, qualified prospects, competitors and industries of interest.
  • Develop clear, concise and compelling messaging and content for use in pitches, attorney resumes and survey and directory submissions.
  • Collaborating with the Global BD team to help align business strategy and cross-collaboration efforts.

Required
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, clients, staff and guests of the Firm.
  • Ability to take initiative, adapt to change and work independently in high-pressure, deadline-driven scenarios while exercising sound judgment and making intelligent, informed decisions.
  • Excellent client service orientation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with various levels of personnel, internally and externally, including existing and potential clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute a wide variety of events.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and execute a diverse range of tasks with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, weigh options and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results.
  • Collaborative approach to working within a team, including the ability to take direction and implement feedback.
  • Ability to thrive in an electronic environment and utilize technology to deliver information. Proficiency in methods of information acquisition, including the use of online information databases, tools and resources.
  • Solid command of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience with CRM/database software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office software, with expertise in PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint preferred.
  • Very strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to perform overtime as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • This role offers a hybrid work arrangement (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the office, Monday and Friday WFH).
