Responsibilities

The College of Business at Florida State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructional specialist to serve as the director of employer development. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and nurturing partnerships with industry leaders and talent acquisition managers to secure internship and employment opportunities for students, with a special emphasis on graduate students. The role also is responsible for employer relations and the development and delivery of professional development courses for graduate students, with a special emphasis on MBA students. The position supervises a full-time employer relations coordinator and a full-time graduate professional development coordinator.
  • Cultivates and nurtures robust relationships with a diverse range of employers to secure internships and job opportunities for students, especially graduate students. Some travel to employer sites is expected.
  • Design and implement comprehensive employer development and engagement strategies to bring employers to campus to recruit students, especially graduate students, for internships and full-time positions.
  • Oversee the development of a program to assist students, primarily graduate students, in the creation of career launch plans that include targeted positions and companies with the goal enhancing internship and employment outcomes.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of professional development programs and courses for graduate students, with a special emphasis on MBA students. These efforts include, but are not limited to, curriculum design, staff selection and training, student assessment, and course evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the college's academic departments, centers and programs to align employer development activities with industry expectations, student career goals, and the college's strategic mission.
  • Collaborate with the college's Center for Professional Success, the college's Strategic Engagement Team, the University Career Center, and others to coordinate employer development and networking activities for students, especially graduate students. These efforts include, but are not limited to, networking events, career fairs, and employer visits.
  • Analyze employment trends and employer expectations to develop strategic insights and reports that will guide the college's career readiness initiatives.
  • Represent the college at internal and external meetings and events related to employer relations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dean of the college.

Qualifications

A master's degree or higher in business or a related field from an accredited institution.

A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in employer development, career services and/or employer relations, preferably within an academic environment.

Demonstrated success in developing and executing employer development and engagement strategies and programs.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with employers, alumni and community partners.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both face-to-face and online.
  • A background in curriculum development focused on professional skills and career readiness.
  • A deep understanding of the current job market and employer needs within a variety of business sectors.
