Tesla is seeking a world-class CAE/CFD engineer with strong background in fluid mechanics and thermal engineering to play a critical role in development of Tesla's next generation Data Centers and Gigafactories design. By applying engineering fundamentals and using state-of-the-art modeling tools, we help push the boundaries of technology and create revolutionary factory and infrastructure designs. This role involves collaboration with several cross functional teams and working on all Tesla infrastructure programs. You will apply your expertise in problem solving using analytical and numerical approaches to drive design innovation, optimize performance, overcome challenges, and develop new methodologies.


Responsibilities
  • Create CAE/CFD and thermal models of data centers and manufacturing spaces to solve various engineering problems and design challenges
  • Provide guidance and support to design and manufacturing teams based on the modeling results
  • Conduct engineering analysis to the finest details to find solutions for technical problems, improve designs and processes, and reduce cost
  • Perform post construction reviews and corroborate the CFD predictions to real time operational results
  • Guide performance validation by helping with test planning, setup design and development, instrumentation, execution, root cause analysis, and data processing
  • Develop highly predictive models and modules for equipment to enable good correlations with real world performance
  • Produce concise management summaries and report-outs that meet the needs of management functions


Requirements
  • Degree in a Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proficient knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Modeling, Gas Dynamics, Multiphase flows, Conjugate Heat Transfer, and Reacting Flows
  • Minimum 5+ years of demonstrated successful experience within a product development environment in Data center design or relevant industry
  • Extensive experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR CCM+, COMSOL, etc. Additional experience in LS-DYNA, ANSA, ABAQUS is a plus
  • Preferred experience in Data center design, thermal management, HVAC System design, cooling technologies, and large scale system performance analysis
  • MATLAB, Simulink, or Python experience for building physics-based 1D models is preferred
  • Excellent written and communication skills
