The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Forensic Services within the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) division of agency.

The Forensics Services campus in St. Peter is comprised of the Forensic Mental Health Program and the Forensic Nursing Home.Forensics Servicesprovides mental health evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety. This is a safe and secure treatment environment.

Under general supervision, provides administrative, clerical and accounting services for the Forensic Mental Health Program (FMHP) Health Services Department and other FMHP departments as assigned. Participate within the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating strong communication skills through writing, non-verbal behaviors and speaking, respect, professional ethics and a spirit of collaboration. To schedule and coordinate all outside Forensic Mental Health Program medical appointments and process all patient medical claims.

Maintain knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, and take measures to ensure a safe, secure and therapeutic environment. Represent the mission, vision and goals of the organization. Encourage patient participation in the forensic services treatment program. The OASS must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • To perform administrative support and clerical duties to ensure the needs of the Health Services Director, RNAS, RNS, nursing staff, medical staff, psychiatric staff, dental staff, and other departments are met.
  • Create and maintain complex medical appointments for FMHP nursing staff, medical practitioners, psychiatric practitioners, and dental staff.
  • Under general supervision/procedural control, provides accounting services to Forensic Services patients related to medical services offered through FMHP referrals. Analyze medical claims, obtain insurance estimate of benefits, approve charges and submit to accounts payable for reimbursement.
  • To conduct business on behalf of Health Services in a prompt, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • To maintain a safe and secure facility so that patients receive quality professional services in a therapeutic


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2)years of experience providing administrative support to management. Experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Knowledge of medical organizations and medical profession terminology.
  • Understanding of general accounting principles sufficient to fulfill medical billing procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work independently to meet the demands of the workload with interruptions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to provide clear, concise, courteous, prompt, and effective service in person and via email, phone, or video conference.
  • English language, spelling, and grammar skills sufficient to compose, analyze, edit, and independently summarize data, reports, and process responses with minimal review.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively, professionally, and courteously develop and maintain internal and external relationships and address needs from clients, staff, public, media, legislative personnel, advocacy groups, or other constituents.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and business software including Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Database skills sufficient to create,retrieve, and analyze information in databases and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in dealing with information and issues that aresensitive nature.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience scheduling/coordinating medical appointments for a wide variety of referrals.
  • Knowledge of State of Minnesota's MMIS, MN-ITS, and Connex software systems to verify patient's benefits and eligibility status.
  • Ability to translate medical bills, verify proper CPT coding and determine eligibility of benefits.
  • Ability to comprehend complex medical records and respond to requests for information from multiple disciplines and organizations.
  • Previous experience working in a secured facility.
  • Previous experience assisting with tracking and managing budget records.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota rules, regulations, statutes, policies and procedures and the legal requirements of data privacy as they relate to staff and clients so that appropriate action, responses and solutions to problems can be developed.
  • Ability to make critical decisions concerning public/media contact whilefollowing department policies and standards.
  • Knowledge of Forensics divisions and organizationalstructure to facilitate appropriate actions as well as to plan and coordinate department-wide activities or conduct special projects.
