JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Functional Neuroimaging Program is a collaboration between the Division of Neurology, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the Le Bonheur Neuroscience Institute, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis TN. The Neuroimaging Lab Staff Researcher utilizes the combined use of brain imaging methods as well as neuromodulation for basic neuroscience and translational clinical research.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of related research or laboratory experience; OR Ph.D. in Engineering, Medical Physics, Neurosciences or a related field with relevant research or laboratory experience.

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Functional Neuroimaging Program is a collaboration between the Division of Neurology, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the Le Bonheur Neuroscience Institute, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis TN. The Neuroimaging Lab Staff Researcher utilizes the combined use of brain imaging methods as well as neuromodulation for basic neuroscience and translational clinical research.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides advanced scientific and technical expertise for the program contributing to the development and implementation of brain imaging procedures and analysis techniques, for both clinical and research applications.
- Processes both non-invasive and invasive mapping data for use in neuronavigation systems in the epilepsy monitoring unit and the operating room and provides support to neurologists and neurosurgeons in planning surgery.
- Designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification, and management of data under the supervision of lab directors. Supports IRB/regulatory documentation.
- Troubleshoots software, electronics, and hardware issues and performs/coordinates repairs as needed.
- Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected.
- Conducts literature searches related to the research project.
- Assists in the preparation of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and grants.
- Supports and trains lab members and establishes and conducts collaborative research.
- Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong programming skills, ideally in Python, Matlab, or R in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and image/signal processing ideally with experience in functional and structural connectivity analyses.
- Experience working in brain imaging using MEG/TMS/EEG/MRI/fMRI open-source software (E.g., FSL, SPM, Curry, Brainstorm, DSI Studio, Freesurfer, FieldTrip, etc.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly communicate with scientists/clinicians at all levels.
- Ability to excel in dynamic working environments and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with study staff, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduates, principal investigators, and other laboratories.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight.
