Responsibilities
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in hematology/bone marrow transplant will work collaboratively as a part of a multidisciplinary team and operate with a high level of autonomy.
In this role, you will provide a comprehensive patient assessment, ordering and interpreting of appropriate laboratory tests and radiologic exams, diagnosis, treatment and management of chemotherapy side effects, and medical co-morbidities. You will be expected to manage side effects and complications from underlying co-morbidities, hematologic disease and therapy, while collaborating with a consultant Hematologist and fellow. You will consult and make referrals to physicians and other members of the health care team as appropriate and coordinate discharge planning. In addition, you will provide educational support to patients and their families. You serve as mentors to fellow allied health professionals during their first year of practice. Additional opportunities to participate in research are available along with quality improvement projects. Professional growth opportunities include educating and precepting students, poster and journal club presentations, pursuing leadership and development through achieving academic rank, as well as presenting at our APP Hematology/Oncology continuing education course.
Qualifications
Prefer prior experience in hospital medicine, internal medicine, or hematology/oncology BMT.
Will consider new grads with previous hospital-based nursing experience in Hem-Onc/BMT, ICU, Cardiology or Internal Medicine or clinical rotations is preferred.
Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross and DEA registration required
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong computer skills. Must be flexible and willing to handle extended hours and on-call responsibilities (evenings, weekends, and holidays) if need arises in department.

APP's are anticipated to work 1 in 3 weekends. The weekend rotation schedule is variable and subject to change based on the needs of the practice in the future.
