Job Description

8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general administration of the Department of Radiology, to coordinate, manage, and provide care to selected patients within protocols mutually agreed upon by the medical personnel and within the scope of practice as defined by New York State Law

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform health care leadership and complex health care activities. Demonstrate an advanced level of educational functions as well as clinical and administrative responsibilities in the Department of Radiology, primarily the division of cardiothoracic imaging.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate care for patients requiring coronary artery CT scans and cardiac MRIs, as well as lung cancer screening exams
  • Help to implement protocols for all cardiac CT scans and MRIs, as well as introduce new policies and procedures as recommended by the American College of Radiology
  • Maintain patient list and participate in multidisciplinary conferences (pulmonary, cardiology) to be held 4-8 times per month, depending on volume
  • Act as a liaison with family practice and internal medicine physicians to coordinate care for incidental findings discovered on imaging, as needed
  • Coordinate with the department of ambulatory care medicine for the scheduling of lung cancer screening patients to evaluate for possible lung cancer
  • Coordinate care for patients undergoing minimally invasive, imaging guided procedures performed in the divisions of musculoskeletal imaging and neuroradiology.
  • Act as the point person to guide patients efficiently through the department on the day of their procedure while overseeing their safety and comfort.
  • Perform clinical assessments on patients before, during and after procedures, including a following up call the day after intervention.
  • Requests appropriate screening assessments within established protocols
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with other health care personnel
  • Attends professional meetings, workshops, and conferences to enrich knowledge and to improve clinical skills
  • Serves as a leader, role model, patient advocate and clinical resource person for other health care personnel
  • Orients new members of the department to departmental policies, procedures, safety, infection control, and fire regulations, as needed


Minimum Qualifications

  1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and
  2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
  3. A current certification issued by the State Education Department to prescribe medication.

  • Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program
  • Have an interest in cardiac imaging Licensed and currently registered to practice in New York State
