This position is eligible for teleworking under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, but some in-office work may be required. Proof of California residency will be required if teleworking prior to start date.

Under the general direction of the Nurse Consultant III (Supervisor), the Nursing Consultant, Program Review (NCPR) conducts medical inspections as part of a prison inspection team. The NCPRs will serve as a technical expert evaluating provision of medical care in adult correctional institutions operated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The incumbent will review selected health records of inmate patients to evaluate nursing care provided at institutions; determine the adequacy of nursing care based on identified professional standards and guidelines; identify strengths and deficits in inmate patient healthcare services; identify areas for improvement; prepare written conclusions for inclusion in public inspection reports; provide medical expertise to other team members; and may travel to correctional institutions and related state offices.
