Unit secretaries play a vital role in the healthcare industry because they support a wide range of individuals, including patients and other medical professionals. The Nursing Unit Secretary performs clerical, receptionist, and transporter duties. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong customer service skills, effective communication skills and have the ability to multi-task.

    The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is where you receive care if you're critically ill and in need of surgery or recovering from surgery. You may be too unstable to be treated on a regular nursing floor, or ICU-level monitoring may be the protocol for a particular procedure. This unit is managed by physicians that have a background in surgery. The staff have worked to create a work environment which values excellence, team work and peer support.
  • Position Summary
    The Nursing Unit Secretary performs clerical, receptionist, and transporter duties.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred
    • License/Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
    • Experience: 1 year of hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Performs clerical and support duties including filing, photocopying, requisitioning and storing supplies, collecting statistics, and entering patient charges.
  • Accurately transcribes and processes Provider orders.
  • Routinely audits patient medical records for appropriate paperwork.
  • Interacts with patients' families, significant others, and visitors to promote patient satisfaction.
  • Monitors and maintains adequate supply of chart paperwork and patient educational handouts.
  • Operates and manages office equipment to maintain efficiency.
  • Assists in transporting paperwork and lab specimens.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
