Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon who has an interest in a clinical practice in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery with a focus on spinal deformity. This position will be based in Colorado Springs. The position will be a full-time faculty Assistant Professor or higher in the School of Medicine, Department of Orthopedics and will report to the Chair of Pediatric Orthopedics, the Director for the Center for Children's Surgery, and as needed, to the Chair of the Orthopedics Department. Completion of a one-year fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population. Write prescriptions for medications, PT, OT, imaging studies, and DME as needed. Complete FMLA and other forms and school notes as needed.
  • Provides pre-op, intra-op and post-op care; writes appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs. There will be some casting, splinting, and dressing required.
  • Performs clinical research related to specific conditions and assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  • Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic. Work with the team to ensure smooth operation of the clinic.
  • Writes progress notes on patients' office and hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required.
  • Provides health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, Physician Assistant students, and other health professional students, engaged in specific clinical activities.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Participate (attend, give talks, help organize) in educational programs including weekly academic conference, journal club, symposia.
  • Participate in community outreach events including giving educational talks, organizing, planning, and attending.
  • Develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and post-operative care.
  • Preparing and giving PowerPoint and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local, and national meetings.
  • Must become proficient in documentation and use of the current Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and be an available resource to other health care providers.
  • Will need to take telephone, ER and hospital call coverage.


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor

  • Board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon
  • Completion of an Orthopedic fellowship with an emphasis on spinal deformities
  • Current Medical License
  • CPR certified


Associate Professor

  • Board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon
  • Completion of an Orthopedic fellowship with an emphasis on spinal deformities
  • Current Medical License
  • CPR certified
  • 5 years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a high-intensity environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $350,000 - $400,000

Associate Professor: $400,000 - $450,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
