Position Description

Primary purpose:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Kinder Morgan natural gas pipelines and compression facilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of pipeline systems including but not limited to trouble shooting and repair of compressors, reciprocating engines, turbines, fans, pumps, valves, seals, and other plant related equipment with minimal formal training.
  • Perform damage prevention tasks including line locating, excavation monitoring, pipeline patrolling, continuing surveillance, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Responsible for the housekeeping of all assigned area facilities and Right of Way (ROW).
  • Lead and plan Operational Project Support to Project Management and other KM operating groups as appropriate.
  • Provide/Deliver Contractor Safety Training and Visitor Safety Orientation as required.
  • Participate in corporate and government agency inspections and audits as required: (PHMSA, ACC, NNEPA, AZEPA, Corporate EHS, US EPA, etc.).
  • Identify, Report and Correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in the development of site-specific procedures, work plans, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Hot Work, etc.
  • Perform all tasks and accurately complete associated documentation in a timely manner in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively and safely respond to emergencies following Kinder Morgan response procedures.
  • Expected to be capable of responding to after-hours call outs including during dark hours in any weather condition.
  • Work extended hours and overtime as needed/required.
  • Other duties as assigned by local management.


Position Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other software).
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Must work well with others as a team, take direction, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow company policies/procedures.
  • Ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Treat others with respect and act in a professional manner.
  • Must represent the company in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Must be capable of operating a vehicle over rough terrain including snow, mud, dirt, ice, and other obstacles in a safe and appropriate manner.

Experience/specific knowledge (above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position):

  • Knowledge and Experience in natural gas compressor stations and pipeline system operations.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tracking databases (i.e. Maximo, Ops Info, WMS, SAP, etc.)
  • Experience in pipeline damage prevention activities.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, Pipe & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other schematics.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license meeting company insurability requirements.
  • Achieve and maintain all required Operator Qualifications (OQs) and Certification requirements applicable to the job classification.

Physical demands (must be met with or without accommodation):

  • Physical ability to lift as much as 50lbs safely and appropriately.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, smelling, depth perception, color vision.
  • Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion.
  • Must be able to climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways, etc.
  • May work in low-lighted areas.
  • Must be willing to respond to after-hours call outs including during dark hours in any weather condition.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

Working conditions:

  • The majority of work will be performed in a plant setting.
  • May be required to carry a company-provided cell phone.
  • Respond to after-hours call outs including during dark hours in any weather condition.
  • Work in Extremely Hot Conditions.
  • Work in Extremely Cold Conditions.
  • May be required to work extended hours and overtime with little or no warning.
  • Must sustain regular and predictable attendance.

Must live or relocate to live (by position start date) within fifty (50) road miles, or an hour drive from reporting location in regularly expected traffic and weather.

Job level will be commensurate with experience and skill set of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
