Job Description:

The McKenna Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is looking for a part-time OPS Laboratory Manager to order laboratory supplies, prepare for safety inspections, and do general laboratory maintenance. They will also conduct molecular biological and biochemical experiments, including tissue culture.

Successful application should have the ability to make day-to-day decisions concerning the general management of the laboratory to keep it functioning in an efficient and productive manner. Maintain records and order supplies that will be required for ongoing research projects. Oversee the maintenance of equipment in the laboratory.

Duties will include:
  • Conducting molecular biological and biochemical experiments on single stranded DNA viruses.
  • Tissue culture.
  • Ordering supplies.
  • Preparing for and responding to safety inspections.
  • Managing general laboratory maintenance.
  • Working with other lab members, including undergrads, grad students, postdocs, and faculty.
Part-time position to start, approximately 20 hours per week. Hours may increase in the future.

Expected Salary:

$15.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in tissue culture, protein purification, DNA isolation, PCR, pay attention to detail and be precise; work flexible hours depending on specific experiments; compile and analyze data; and keep complete and precise records, including an up-to-date, organized, legible, and accurate laboratory notebook. Applicants must also possess basic math skills, solid basic computer knowledge, excellent use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and an ability to interact and communicate well with others.
