Job Description:
The Orthopaedic Biomedical Engineering (OrthoBME) Laboratory is seeking an operations coordinator to assist with the organization and coordination of our orthopedic tissue bank. Our lab is focused on understanding how chronic joint degeneration leads to chronic pain and disability, and to achieve this goal, our team works with samples collected from both rodent models and human patients ( www.orthobme.com ). This position will primarily focus on coordinating our team and the sample collection associated with our tissue bank, as well as other responsibilities in purchasing, supply chain management, safety, and biohazard/chemical waste management. A key tenet of our laboratory is team-based science, and we feature a highly collaborative environment and ambitious projects that coordination among multiple units and laboratories. As such, strong communication skills, willingness to learn and problem solve, and ability work with and mentor others are highly important for all members of our team and especially important to this position. An operations coordinator in our group must have excellent organizational and communication skills. This person will also help to coordinate our team for patient consent, review surgical schedules to assure timely pick-up of donated tissue samples, catalog human samples received by the laboratory for long-term storage, interface with clinical partners to assure transfer of specimens and as little intrusiveness of clinical operations as possible, maintain the laboratory's regulatory compliance records, and manage day-to-day operations such as chemical waste management, purchasing, and supply chain management. Additional responsibilities may also include coordinating research meetings, assisting with rodent post-operative pain management, as well as conducting pathology assessments, as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have a B.S. degree in a biomedical sciences field, such as biochemistry, pathology, physiology, or biomedical engineering. Other degree fields will also be considered if the applicant has the desired skill sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

Our research focuses on understanding complex interactions between different physiologic systems within the context of knee osteoarthritis. The centering question for our laboratory is how does the degeneration of the articular joint lead to joint pain and disability. The laboratory employs multiple scientists with broad expertise across medical research; thus, applicants must be able and willing to collaborate with other lab members with a broad range of scientific expertise. Communication and organizational skills are essential to the position, as the primary role for this position is to coordinate the team from patient consent through to specimen collection and data generation, documenting metadata throughout the cycle.
