Job Summary Job Summary

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the role of the Patient Support Services Supervisor position is to perform as a unit HUSC in addition to providing supervision of the Davis 14 Hospital Unit Service Coordinator 3's (HUSC), the Volunteer staff, and managing the unit's time keeping, scheduling, meeting minutes, ordering supplies, stocking, scanning, environmental of care, and general administrative support and duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure in relevant patient care / support discipline.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of such education and experience.
  • Experience conducting group and individual training sessions
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Skills to supervise an administrative and/or para-technical team and to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Supervisory skills related to recruitment, organizing, scheduling, and assigning work, training and evaluating work performance, implementing counseling, discipline and corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of patient care support activities, systems, external regulations. and internal policies.
  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Practices, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and University policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical experience with the ability to identify, analyze, report and resolve problems accurately and timely.
  • Working knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources maters and employee performance.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies
  • Knowledge and ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

  • Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment during medical emergencies
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate infection control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients
  • Strong computer skills including EMR, ANSOS, EcoTime, Aggie Service, e-mail, electronic calendaring systems, and MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex clinical and technical information In a clear and concise manner, and to produce a variety of reports and analyses
  • Experience preparing reports, memorandums and documents
  • Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure
  • Organizational skills to provide direct supervision to licensed and unlicensed employees
  • Ability to appropriately use available resources (personnel and equipment/supplies) to ensure that the patients on a specific unit receive safe, appropriate patient care during the course of a shift
  • Ability to coach and mentor employees, promoting teamwork and encouraging professional development
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for own actions and act with integrity
  • Strong productivity focus and commitment to generating quality work and providing quality service in an efficient cost-effective manner.

Department Overview

The Orthopedic/Trauma Unit is a 36-bed acute care specialty and telemetry unit that provides inpatient care and treatment for adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery patients are the unit's primary population. The orthopedic surgery services include trauma, spine, total joints, sports, tumor, peds, hand, foot, and ankle. Our unit also provides medical surgical care to patients from other services, including but not limited to, Trauma Surgery, Burn Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Medicine.
