GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the supervision and direction of the Medical Director of Charlestown and the Deputy COO, the Physician Assistant will provide primary and episodic care in collaboration with an identified physician to patients of all age groups in any and/or all departments. Working in this Ambulatory setting, The PA will obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations to evaluate patients seeking episodic or on-going care and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as required, coordinate tests and consultations, implement treatment plans, communicate with any referring and consulting physician, perform patient education, and participate with other disciplines in the development of an individualized care plan if required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtains a detailed, accurate medical history and performs a comprehensive indicated components of the physical examination on patients.
Conducts triage, health promotions, health screening, episodic, acute and chronic problem
Diagnoses and manages patient presentation for triage, episodic, acute and chronic problem
Recognizes, coordinates and revises management plans for conditions throughout the life span
Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedure
Performs EKG
Institutes selective screening procedures as indicated
Acts as primary responder and provider in emergency situation
Facilitates patient wellness through health promotions, education and follow up
Refers patients for inter- and intra agency services, community resources and supportive service
Performs psychosocial assessment in order to understand factors that influence patient's health status as indicated
Involves patients' significant others in appropriate decision-making processes as indicated
Acts as patient advocate
Participates in monthly staff meeting
Participates in and acts on recommendation from clinical record review
Participates in relevant in-service
Completes all requests from schools, camps, exams for certificates, and return to work form
Collaborates and coordinates patient visit needs with LPN's and M.A.
• Writes complete and comprehensive notes on all patients using the Epic EMR system in a timely manner and discusses the care of patients with the supervising physician and other consult services that are involved with the care of that patient as needed.
Participates in orientation of new staff member
Independently seeks physician and supervisory consultation
Seeks and is responsible for ongoing growth/development resulting in maintaining and securing active licensure
Maintains current CPR certification
Participates in performance improvement activitie
Effectively and accurately delegates nursing and non-nursing activitie
Participates in at least one committee on an annual basi
Assumes any other tasks and duties as delegated in a timely and cooperative manner
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
Must be able to assess data reflective of a patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific need
Must have the flexibility to negotiate job-share positions requiring constant coverage
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ambulatory health care setting.
Qualifications
Completed a graduate level physician assistant program (Master's Degree) accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) or such other accrediting agency.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Must hold a current valid license as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth on Massachusett
Must have, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration
One year nursing experience, preferably in a community health setting
Acts only within the scope of his or her state license
