Under general direction of the Plant Operations Superintendent, the Plant Operations Maintenance Supervisor ensures the reliable and safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by directing the completion of various predictive, corrective and emergency maintenance tasks on equipment, systems and processes used in the water production, wastewater treatment and reclaimed water systems and is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a proactive, planned, maintenance program for water production and wastewater treatment mechanical equipment; selecting, training, supervising and providing leadership to Maintenance Operators; and for the procurement of goods and services utilized in plant operations maintenance activities.
  • Assign, supervise, and coordinate work schedules for assigned personnel and ensure proper training, tools, and time are allocated to complete planned and emergency maintenance tasks within the Water Production, Wastewater Treatment and Reclaimed Water systems.
  • Responsible for supervising and mentoring a team of mechanical maintenance operators, including prioritizing and assigning work; monitoring workloads; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring adherence to standards and procedures; identifying training needs; and participating in hiring, terminating, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
  • Locate and remedy sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation using precision measuring and testing instruments, adhere to industry best-management practices, optimize equipment efficiency by evaluating equipment performance parameters.
  • Control equipment/process downtime by coordinating maintenance activities with all impacted parties including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise the fabrication of repair parts through welding, cutting and machining on an as-needed basis to address obsoleted parts and emergency situations.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; obtaining service contracts; verifying receipt of supplies and services. Ensure all purchased goods and services are obtained efficiently and in compliance with the city's procurement requirements.
  • Coordinate with Asset Manager to maintain comprehensive records of mechanical maintenance activities and asset related documentation using CMMS system and KPI software.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information, trends; implement and maintain Preventive Maintenance Program; monitor and record compliance performance.
  • Ensure safe and clean work environment through inspections and oversee general upkeep of plant facilities and confirm compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Participate in the conception, planning, design review and construction inspection of Capital Improvement Projects within the Plant Operations area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D., and four (4) years of experience related to area of assignment; or Associate's degree and three (3) years' experience related to area of assignment; or Bachelor's degree in related field; including one (1) year supervisory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Texas Class A CDL with tanker, air brake, and HAZMAT endorsements, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire; and ability to maintain

Possess either Class C Groundwater or Class C Wastewater License issued by the State of Texas upon hire; ability to obtain and maintain both licenses (one which may be obtained within five (5) years from date of hire, and the ability to maintain

Ability to perform physical tasks associated with maintenance and repair activities, including lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces, and climbing ladders

Willingness and ability to work an on-call schedule and work flexible hours as needed to maintain operational continuity

Preferred: At least two (2) years of supervisory experience over a maintenance program and staff for a water/wastewater treatment plant.

Ability to operate and efficiently use modern office equipment and technology, including computers and applicable software

Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT)
