Postdoctoral Fellow - Genetics (Guarnerio lab)

Houston, Texas

Employer: MD Anderson Cancer Center
Industry: Trainee
Salary: $64000 - $76000. per year
Job type: Full-Time

The Guarnerio lab is looking for talented and motivated postdoctoral fellows to join our dynamic team.

At the Guarnerio lab, we're dedicated to unraveling the complex molecular mechanisms used by tumor cells to create a pro-tumorigenic tumor microenvironment (TME). We utilize cutting-edge technologies like single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to study both mouse and human tissues. Our research is deeply rooted in translational science, with the ultimate goal of developing innovative cancer therapies that reprogram tumor cells and the TME.

Our recent publications include:
Study of the MIF/CD74 axis in pro-tumorigenic macrophages (Tessaro et al., Cell Reports, 2022)
Identification of anti-inflammatory, tumor promoting circular RNAs (Piras et al., Nat Comm, 2022)
Characterization of glyCAFs and T cell exclusion from the tumor mass (Broz et al., Nat Comm, 2024)

Research Projects:
Postdoctoral fellows will have the opportunity to lead independent research on one of these exciting projects:
Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAF): Investigate their role in promoting tumor growth and immune exclusion.
Circular RNAs: Explore novel mechanisms of immune exclusion and evasion.
Sarcoma Stem/Progenitor Cells: Identify new tumor vulnerabilities and therapeutic targets.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
As a postdoc, you will:
Lead your project and collaborate with internal and external teams.
Mentor PhD students and present findings at lab meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Publish your research in peer-reviewed journals.
Gain expertise in cancer biology, immunology, single-cell RNA sequencing, data analysis, and grant writing.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Recent Ph.D. in cancer biology or immunology with lead-author publications.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a team.

Experience in cancer immunology, murine tumor modeling, and/or tumor/immune metabolism is desirable. Strong experience in flow or mass cytometry is a must.

Familiarity with single-cell RNA-sequencing and functional genomics (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9 pooled screenings) is a plus but not required.

Candidates pursuing an independent career path are preferred.
