QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood Education
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
JOB GOALS:
- To provide an educational environment in which Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) students succeed academically, socially, and physically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives.
- To implement an effective educational program for Pre-K students using the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources, and best instructional practices.
- To serve as a student advocate, role model, and professional resource for parents, the community, and the school system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its mission, goals and priorities.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child development and especially of characteristics of Pre-Kindergarten students.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research and best instructional practices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
- Assesses and provides appropriate instruction and modifications based on needs, attending to special interests, strengths, concerns and students with special needs, including exceptional education students and students who have limited proficiency in English.
- Defines goals and objectives for age-appropriate long-range curriculum plans and daily lesson plans based on a review of system and state curriculum priorities, student profiles and instructional priorities, and revises plans based on student needs.
- Plans and prepares a variety of learning activities with age-appropriate materials considering individual student's culture, learning styles, special needs and socio-economic background, and foster active involvement of students in the learning process.
- Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
- Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students.
- Facilitates and monitors the integration of technology in the classroom.
- Utilizes district provided software to support student learning.
- Maintains appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn and effectively supervises students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Maintains a clean, attractive and organized learning environment.
- Establishes and uses behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.
- Works effectively and collaboratively with peers, parents, administrators, and other school system staff to maximize student achievement.
- Engages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment and leadership.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding /student/school/workplace matters.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Principal/Supervisor.
