JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: This position is responsible for ensuring the appropriate development and implementation of the evaluation and IEP process for all special education eligible preschool children. Serving as the primary contact for families needing assistance, the Service Coordinator provides information, resources, and support to families, as needed. In addition, this position ensures services are in place for all children and manages the necessary aspects of service delivery including, but not limited to, communication among team members and communication between the Bucks IU and community agencies.

Essential Functions:

Attend re-evaluation ("RR") and Individualized Education Program meetings ("IEP") meetings and act as the Local Education Agency Rep ("LEA Rep")

  • Schedule and facilitate all initial IEP team meetings for identified regions (including creating, issuing, tracking and filing supplementary documentation)
  • Review documents to ensure accuracy and make suggestions related to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ("IDEA") and Chapter 14 compliance components
    • Provide feedback to IEP team regarding any necessary changes
  • Support Office of Child Development and Early Learning requirements in the IEP process
  • Obtain and record parent input
  • Facilitate open and supportive communication among IEP team members
  • Ensure finalization of all evaluations and IEPs for all contractor developed documents and for students placed at an Approved Private School
  • Attend meetings for all children with contractor special education leads without exception, with close facilitation of speech-only contractor leads


Establish and maintain positive relationships with families

Provide families with information, resources, and contacts

Return phone calls/email within 24-hours

Process student assignments

  • Facilitate with supervisor the assignment of initial IEP writing and receiving team
  • Coordination of non-cyclical reevaluations based on new concerns or outside reports


Meet weekly with supervisor

  • Update supervisor on unassigned services
  • Update supervisor on compensatory time owed
  • Discuss all high-profile cases with supervisor and follow delegated action steps
  • Track all students who require services over breaks and work with supervisor to assign those services


In collaboration with a supervisor, track and assign make up hours when a child is unassigned

Participate in transition to school age meetings

Initiate and facilitate move-in process with families

Initiate and facilitate out of county requests for services

Maintain system of student tracking in area/region

Support IEP teams with securing medical and custody documentation

Attend monthly service coordinator meetings to conduct student file reviews related to compliance and provider monitoring

If applicable, follow the process for approved private school placements

Support and coach leads in the IEP process

Provide new staff with training on Power School and Pelican as part of Orientation

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 193-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the preschool early intervention program, children, and families. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Travel to client locations is expected for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or closely related field required.
  • SLP applicants must hold Certificate of Clinical Competence and/or State Licensure.
  • PA Certification in Special Education or related field required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge of all areas of early childhood learning and special education.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to local school districts, school boards, Office of Child Development and Early Learning, Bucks IU staff, and community and parent groups.
  • Ability to develop and present demonstration material to groups and individuals.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable): Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
