Key Responsibilities:

Case Review and Resolution
  • Efficiently review, refer, and close cases within BCDC's jurisdiction.
  • Rigorously research and resolve assigned enforcement cases, meeting strict deadlines.
  • Strategically prioritize urgent cases, assessing significant harm to the Bay and public access.
  • Navigate complex cases, escalating them effectively to the Enforcement Policy Manager and up the chain of command.
  • Craft vital legal documents including notices, violation reports, cease and desist orders, and settlement agreements.
  • Compile an exhaustive administrative record for high-level committee and commission hearings and superior court cases, as needed.
  • Present cases with conviction and clarity at Enforcement Committee and Commission hearings.
  • Establish detailed enforcement records in line with the California Code of Regulations.
  • Conduct essential site inspections related to case resolution.
Litigation Support Duties
  • Meticulously review litigation documents, ensuring accurate enforcement records.
  • Execute declarations and contribute to the discovery phase.
  • Manage document subpoenas and provide data for interrogatories.
  • Play a key role in identifying expert witnesses.
  • Organize and coordinate site visits, depositions, and trial witness duties.
  • Perform additional research and site inspections for trial preparation.
  • Engage in strategic settlement negotiations.
Advanced Leadership Functions
  • Step in for the Enforcement Policy Manager as needed.
  • Take charge of resolving the most complex enforcement cases.

This position is expected to report to BCDC headquarters in San Francisco no less than two days per week, Monday through Thursday (Thursdays are required in-office days).

Working Conditions

BCDC's office is our headquarters in downtown San Francisco at 375 Beale Street. BCDC is a hybrid workplace and offers telework for all employees. Telework is available for this position in accordance with BCDC Telework Policy and Procedures with two weekly in-person office days, one of which must be Thursday.
